WELCOME

The Mission of the Palmetto House is to provide assistance to those in need of basic human necessities and to help clients become self reliant members of our community. With the economy worsening in late 2007, 2008 and into 2009, some of the basic necessities provided by the shelter include:

A resident address and phone number, which are key ingredients for job seeking individuals. Shelter and Food. Access to transportation and medical care.

In 2008, we sheltered 141 individuals and served 14,249 meals. 3 meals per day are served to shelter residents and other hungry individuals in need. No one is ever turned away! This meal service alone has helped many elderly community neighbors manage their tight budgets in keeping their grocery bills low.

Food and clothing are also distributed from the Dorchester Interfaith Outreach Ministries office in the Trident United Way Building, Main Street in downtown Summerville. In 2008 we served 335 families with food and clothing. Adequate laundry and shower facilities

Click here for a small chart related to our outreach. We are located at 107 Elks Lodge Lane, off Hwy 78 at Maple Street, neighboring The Elks Lodge in Summerville. The Palmetto House is a 28-bed facility, and we are able to accept families as well as singles.
