Who are your typical residents?
Our residents range from the uneducated to the well educated - from single women to families with chilidren. We have individuals who have been homeless for a year, and families who have been kicked out of their homes due to loss of job.

Aren't residents just lazy or drug addicts or drunks?
See above question and the answer is no. At The Palmetto House, our residents who don't have jobs are busy at Employment Security, looking for a job, taking care of the shelter, cooking meals, etc. Individuals with substance abuse issues are referred to the appropriate agency for assistance.

I want to check you out in person. Can I come over?
Please come over. We do ask that you call before you come, and we prefer to have visitors (unless you are a scheduled volunteer) during the daytime so as to respect the privacy of our residents.
